Shirley’s background is nursing with a specialist qualification in Emergency Nursing. Shirley worked for 17 years in the Emergency Department (MRHT), for 13 of these years she was the CNM2 Shift Leader with responsibility for the safe management of patients and staff within the department.

Shirley then worked as the Assistant Director of Nursing Site Manager for 18 months providing clinical leadership, expertise and managerial advice to all staff in the clinical area.  She has worked as the Interim Head of Operations within MRHT for the last 2 years with responsibility for the strategic and operational planning in line with the HSE corporate plan.
